Hello, Horror friends! My name is Kevin L. Williams, and I am the newest member of the Darkside Releasing family! I am a Horror author, amateur Horror historian of sorts, and all-around Horror geek like the rest of you!
Today I want to tell you about a podcast I created called Speaking of Gothic!
On this podcast, I talk about all kinds of Horror films, with a particular eye on what makes a film Gothic; or films with Gothic Horror tropes in them. What’s surprising after studying so many different films is the number of times I see the same Gothic tropes across different Horror films and subgenres!
One of the films I talked about is a movie I love and watch over and over again. It is also one I don’t see discussed often enough by Horror fans, so I thought I would give it some love on my podcast and share it here with you all too! It is a great movie called: Overlord from 2018.

Overlord is a movie I adore! It is one of the best Horror/Action films I’ve ever seen, possibly underrated. I rarely see discussions or reviews about this film on Horror sites or mentioned on Horror podcasts. This is a shame because it is so well-crafted and acted, and the set design and practical FX are a wonder to behold that blend with beautiful use of CGI!
The plot runs down like this: On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to penetrate the walls of a fortified church and destroy a radio transmitter. As the soldiers approach their target, they soon begin to realize that there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. Making their way to an underground lab, the outnumbered men stumble upon a sinister experiment that forces them into a vicious battle against an army of the undead.
To say anything else would spoil what is a fantastic monster film! I mean this movie has it all! Action, blood, guts, gore, characters we can root for and don’t want anything to happen to. I could go on and on about this fantastic film, but first, if you would indulge me. Listen to this episode to make up your own mind. Then, run, don’t walk, to grab this film! Believe me, if you are a true Horror fan, you’ll be glad you did!
